East Providence - Alice I. Sousa, a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI, on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on June 26, 1930, in East Providence, RI, to the late Emmanuel and Maria DoCei Esteves (Costa) Souza, Alice was a lifelong resident of the area and a cherished member of her community.
Alice was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Sousa, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. She was a devoted mother to Debra Sousa Pina of East Providence, Jocelyn Dubois of North Carolina, and the late Sandra Marie Sousa and Toni-Ann Lee Sousa. Alice was also the proud sister of the late Manuel Souza, Joseph A. Souza, and Mary Hendricks Casqillo, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter as an aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Her role as a grandmother was one she held dear, showering affection on her grandchildren Scott, Rachael, Jennifer, Christin, Heather, Kayla, Brandi, Carlton, and Lloyd. Alice also embraced the joys of being a great grandmother to Hannah, Nathaniel, Blessing, Levi, Brianna, Jacob, Jewel, Vanesa, Avah, and Madison, Wyatt, Scarlett, Lacie, and a great-great grandmother to Lilliana and Christian.
Alice's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. For over 15 years, she was a diligent payment processor for Cherry, Webb and Touraine (CWT) Stores, where her commitment to excellence was evident to her colleagues and superiors alike. Her work ethic and positive attitude left an indelible mark on the company and its staff.
Those who knew Alice will remember her for her infectious humor, unwavering faith, and remarkable courage. She had the unique ability to light up a room with her presence and bring a smile to the face of anyone she encountered. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, providing her with strength and guiding her actions throughout her life. Her courage, especially in the face of adversity, inspired all who knew her, teaching them the true meaning of resilience.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 8:30am -10:00am in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI. With a funeral home service at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
