East Providence - Alziro Medina, affectionately known as Alziro to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the venerable age of 86. Born on December 19, 1938, on the picturesque island of Graciosa, Azores, Alziro's journey brought him to East Providence, where he lived for over two decades after leaving the Fox Point section of Providence. He was a man whose presence was as comforting and cherished as the gardens he so lovingly tended.
Alziro leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, epitomized by his marriage of over 63 years to his beloved wife, Maria Fatima (Silva) Medina. He was the devoted son of the late Manuel and Maria (Nazare) Medina, and he carried the values of his parents throughout his life. His legacy continues through his children, Helio Medina of Portland, Maine, and Cristina Montalvo and her husband Dennis of Warwick, who will forever hold their father's memory close to their hearts. Though he is predeceased by several brothers and sisters, his spirit remains alive in the stories and memories shared among his family.
Alziro was not only a family man but also a respected professional, having served as a manufacturing shift supervisor for the Eastern Wire Company for over 14 years. His work ethic and leadership were an inspiration to his colleagues, and he was highly regarded within the industry for his integrity and commitment.
As a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Alziro's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and providing comfort in times of need. His interests were simple yet profound; he found joy in the tranquility of his garden, the excitement of watching his favorite soccer team, Benfica, and, most importantly, in the laughter and stories shared with his four grandsons, Roman, Ethan, Emerson, and Alexander. Each of them will carry forward his lessons of patience, passion, and the importance of nurturing the things you love.
Those who knew Alziro would describe him as loving, kind, and gentle. These attributes were evident in every aspect of his life, from the tender care he showed his family and friends, to the meticulous attention he devoted to his garden, and the enthusiasm with which he discussed the latest soccer match. Alziro's gentle nature was a soothing balm to those fortunate enough to have known him, and his kindness was a beacon that lit the way for others.
Alziro's journey on this earth has come to a peaceful end, but the memories he created, the love he shared, and the lives he touched will continue to resonate. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his influence will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. As we say farewell to Alziro Medina, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will endure through the generations.
We honor the memory of Alziro, a man whose life was as rich and fulfilling as the gardens he tended—with love, attention, and grace. His passing is not just a loss but an invitation to reflect on the beauty and kindness he brought into this world, which will continue to bloom in his absence. Rest in peace, Alziro, and thank you for the joy and love you bestowed upon us all.
