Amelia A. "Millie" Gomes

EAST PROVIDENCE - Amelia A. “Millie” Gomes, 91, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the Hulitar HopeHealth Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved companion of Thomas Joseph of East Providence.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 31, 1934, she was the loving daughter of the late John and Mary (Botelho) Gomes. A lifelong resident of East Providence, Millie was employed for many years with the A. T. Cross Company, from which she later retired.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, she was a devoted communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church and a former member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood. Millie found great joy in dancing and music—especially that of Elvis Presley—and loved attending outdoor concerts during the summertime. She cherished family gatherings and especially enjoyed time spent with her nieces and nephews. Known for her warm personality and wonderful sense of humor, she will be fondly remembered for her laughter and the joy she brought to those around her.

In addition to Tom, her longtime companion, she is survived by her dear sister, Helen Madoian and her husband John of Warwick. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, all of whom she held close to her heart. She was the sister of the late Mary Mello and Frances Turbitt.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, beginning with visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in her honor at 11:00 AM in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside.
