Aniceto H. Cordeiro

Aniceto H. Cordeiro, 83, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Maria P. (Medeiros) Cordeiro.

Born on April 16, 1941, in São Miguel, Azores, Aniceto was a loving son of the late Hercolano R. Cordeiro and Olga R. (Pereira) Cordeiro. He spent his early years in São Miguel, where he served in the Portuguese military and later worked as a police officer. In 1970, he emigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream, settling in Rhode Island where he worked for many years as a welder.

Aniceto was proud of his Portuguese heritage and was an active member of the Portuguese American Club in East Providence. A man of strong Catholic faith, he was a devoted communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church in East Providence for many years.

In addition to his beloved wife, Maria, Aniceto is survived by two nephews, Jose Luis Cordeiro and Rui Cordeiro. He was the father of the late Roberto Cordeiro and the brother of the late Oscar Cordeiro and Azorio Cordeiro.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Aniceto's funeral on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The service will begin at 9:00 AM from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM celebrated by Reverend Jorge Rocha at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
