Cranston - Ann Elizabeth (Maddox) Barboza, known affectionately as Ann to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at RI Hospital in Providence, RI. Born on August 24, 1935, in Providence, she was a beacon of wisdom and thoughtfulness throughout her 89 years of life.
Ann spent her early years in Providence before moving to Cranston in 1974, where she lived a life marked by intelligence and a caring spirit. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley A. Barboza and a devoted mother to her children. She leaves behind a legacy in her sons Wayne, Peter, and Kris Maddox, and she was predeceased by her son Neil Maddox and stepson Stanley A. Barboza, Jr.
Her siblings held a special place in her heart, and she is survived by her brother John Maddox and sister Janet Maddox. Ann was preceded in death by her siblings Bruce Maddox, William Maddox, Elaine Johnson, Phyllis Maddox, Marilyn Shogren, and Emily Green. Ann's role as a grandmother was filled with the same warmth and guidance she provided as a mother. She cherished her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Ann's professional life was characterized by dedication and reliability. She worked for many years as a credit card processor for the former Fleet Bank, where her colleagues respected her for her meticulous work and supportive nature.
Outside of work, Ann's passions were as diverse as they were enriching. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, finding peace and solace in the beauty of nature. Her garden was a testament to her patience and love for life, blossoming under her care just like her family. Ann also found joy in the quiet moments spent with a good book, the rhythmic click of her knitting needles, and the thrill of embarking on new adventures.
Ann was a woman who lived by example, inspiring others with her thoughtful approach to life. She navigated the world with a quiet intelligence that drew people to her, seeking her wise counsel and enjoying her company. Her presence was a comforting constant in the lives of those she touched.
As we bid farewell to Ann, we celebrate a life lived with intention and love. Her memory will continue to guide and inspire her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Ann's passing leaves a void, but her spirit remains a guiding light that will continue to shine in the hearts of her loved ones.
Ann (Maddox) Barboza will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will live on through the stories shared, the gardens nurtured, and the lives she enriched. Her journey on earth has ended, but the impact of her presence will be felt for generations to come.
Calling hours and flowers are omitted. She will be buried in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, with her late husband.
