Antonio A. Mendonca

Antonio Avelino Mendonca, 73, of East Providence, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born on July 28, 1951, in Ponta Delgada, Madeira, Portugal was known for his strength, reliability, and unwavering dedication to his family. A man who could always be counted on, he faced life’s challenges with resilience and courage.

Antonio shared over 42 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Maria Valentina, who passed away on December 29, 2021. Their love and partnership were the foundation of his life, and they built a legacy of devotion that will be remembered by all who knew them.

Antonio’s family meant everything to him. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever. He was also a devoted fan of S.L. Benfica and rarely missed a match. An avid gardener and dedicated DIYer, he spent countless hours working on projects around the house. He also took pride in making wine, a craft he enjoyed and shared with friends and family. Antonio was also both a great cook and gifted baker, sharing homemade meals and treats with loved ones.

He is survived by his two sons, Larry Mendonca and his wife Christine of Rehoboth MA, and Kevin Mendonca and his wife Jessica of East Providence RI, and two grandchildren Lucas Antonio and Ava Valentina, who will carry forward his memory, honoring the love, strength, and joy he brought to their lives.

His funeral will be celebrated, Friday, November 15, 2024, at 8:30am at the Rebello Funeral Home & Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse St, Providence RI. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, RI Calling hours will be held the morning of the funeral at the Rebello Funeral Home from 8:30-9:30 am.
