Arlinda Guimaraes Obituary

Pawtucket - Arlinda Ludovina Guimaraes, lovingly known by those around her as Arlinda, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Summit Commons Nursing Home in Providence. Born to Antone and Ludovina (Brito) Silva on March 21, 1926, in Sao Vicente, Cape Verde, Arlinda's life journey of 98 years was marked by her deep devotion to family, friends, and community. She was the cherished wife of the late Oscar Guimaraes, a bond that was graced with love, laughter, and mutual respect.

Arlinda's legacy is carried forward by her loving family, including her daughters Firmina DeBrito Couto of the Netherlands and Aline Lima of Warwick, and her siblings Sergio Brito Camila of Pawtucket and Florence Brito Camila of Cape Verde. She was predeceased by her son, Adriano DeBrito Couto, and siblings Manuel Benjamin Brito Camila, Amara Benjamin Camila, Antonio Benjamin Camila, Maria Ludovina Brito Camila, Paula Brito Camila, and Zulmira Brito Camila Alves. A matriarch in the truest sense, Arlinda was a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and a great-grandmother to many, whose lives are richer for her love and wisdom. Her extended family of nieces and nephews also survive her, each carrying a part of her spirit into the future.

Throughout her life, Arlinda was a self-employed seamstress, a vocation that allowed her to touch the lives of countless individuals with her craft. With skilled hands and a keen eye for detail, she not only stitched fabrics but also wove a tapestry of community connections that endured through the years. Her work was not just a job; it was a manifestation of her generous spirit, as she poured her heart into every garment she created.

Arlinda's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She had an unwavering passion for cooking, often seen preparing sumptuous meals that brought her family and friends together around the table. Traveling was another of her joys, as she relished the opportunity to explore new places and cultures, always with a sense of adventure and curiosity. Socializing was second nature to Arlinda; she had the innate ability to light up a room with her friendly demeanor and warm presence. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she was always ready to help anyone at any time, a trait that extended beyond her immediate circle to touch the lives of those in need.

A testament to her charitable nature, Arlinda was recognized by St. Jude Children's Hospital for over 12 years of dedicated support. This honor was a reflection of her compassionate soul and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others, especially children facing their most challenging moments.

Arlinda's life can be summed up by the words loving, generous, and friendly. She navigated the world with an open heart, always ready to give, connect, and cherish the people around her. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, yet her impact will continue to resonate through the countless lives she touched.

As we bid farewell to Arlinda Ludovina Guimaraes, we celebrate a life brimming with love, a journey characterized by unwavering kindness, and a legacy of generosity that will continue to inspire generations to come.
