Betty Smith Obituary

Betty Ann (Silva) Smith, 84, affectionately known as Betty to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at Evergreen House in East Providence on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Born on April 11, 1940, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Edmond and Jennie (Ruggeirio) Silva.

Betty's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her kind-hearted nature. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Smith, Sr. and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy, including her sons Frank Perrotta of Florida, John Perrotta and his companion Lynne of East Providence, her daughter Lisa Paige of North Carolina, and her stepchildren James Smith of Pawtucket, Timothy Smith and his wife Michelle of Warren, and Lynn Gagne of Seekonk, who sadly lost her husband Ron. Betty held a special place in her heart for her late sons, Bobby Perrotta and stepsons Steven Smith and Edwin Smith, Jr., as well as her late brother, Edmond Silva Jr.

Betty's role as a grandmother brought her immense happiness, and she adored her grandchildren Nicole Praisner and her husband Marty, RJ Gagne and his wife Kasey, Hannah and Ryleigh Smith, Melania, and Audriana Smith. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Martin Praisner IV, Mylo Praisner, and Madelynn Gagne. Betty's love and guidance were the cornerstones of her family, and her legacy of love will continue to be felt through the generations.

Professionally, Betty was a dedicated clerk for an insurance company, where she was known for her meticulous work and thoughtful demeanor. Her colleagues respected her for her reliability and warm personality, which made her a pleasure to work alongside.

Betty's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and joys, providing a source of comfort and strength.

Outside of her work and family commitments, Betty had a zest for life that was contagious. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of visiting casinos, sharing coffee with friends, and shopping for the perfect gift. But above all, spending time with her family and grandchildren was what she cherished most. Her presence was a source of joy at family gatherings, and the memories created during those times will be treasured forever.

Betty was the epitome of a loving, kind, and thoughtful individual. Her actions spoke volumes, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit and the love she freely gave to all who knew her. Her warm smile and compassionate ways left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

As we bid farewell to Betty, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Betty's family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her beloved husband Edward and other departed family members.

Betty's life will be honored and remembered in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy of love and compassion will remain as a beacon of light for her family and friends. We are grateful for the time we had with Betty, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
