Carlos "Charlie" Furtado Obituary

Rumford - Carlos A. Furtado, affectionately known as Charlie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Hope Hospice in Providence RI. Born on September 22, 1946, in Furnas, Sao Miguel Azores, Charlie brought joy and laughter to all who knew him throughout his 78 years of a life well-lived.

Charlie was the beloved husband of Veneranda Fatima (Dovale) Furtado, sharing years of love and companionship. He was the cherished son of the late Manuel F. and Maria (Dos Anjos) Furtado. A dedicated father, he leaves behind his sons, Steven Furtado and his wife Jodi of Warren, and Erik Furtado and his wife Stephanie of East Providence. Mourning his loss alongside them are his siblings, remembering him as the dear brother of the late Jose Furtado and the late Duarte Furtado. Charlie's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Riley, Mason, Travis, and his step-grandchildren, Layla and Alanna, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and humor.

Charlie's life was one of service and dedication. Following his time in the Portuguese Army, he embarked on a career spanning over three decades in the Shipping Department for the American Insulated Wire Company. Known for his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor, he made many lifelong friendships and left an indelible mark on his colleagues.

A resident of Rumford for over 38 years, Charlie was an integral part of the community. Coming from East Providence, he quickly made Rumford his home and became a devoted parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. His faith and commitment to community service were evident in his involvement with the Phillips Street Hall, where he was a familiar face, often found cooking for various events and bringing people together with his delicious meals.

Charlie's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid soccer fan, he never missed a chance to cheer for his favorite team, Sporting F.C., and shared his love for the sport with everyone around him. An enthusiast of the outdoors, he found peace in playing golf, fishing, and simply enjoying nature's beauty. Traveling was more than a hobby for Charlie; it was a way to explore new horizons and create lasting memories with his family and friends.

Above all, Charlie will be remembered as a man who cherished his family time. His home was a hub of laughter, storytelling, and the aroma of his cooking, which brought his loved ones together. His sense of humor was infectious, and his friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community.

Those who knew Charlie would describe him as loving, funny, and friendly—a man whose presence could light up a room and whose heart was always open to others. He lived his life embracing the joy of each moment, and his optimistic spirit was a source of comfort and inspiration.

As we bid farewell to Carlos A. Furtado, we reflect on a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Charlie's journey through life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and his memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to be part of his story.
