Riverside - Carmelita V. (Vieira) Moura, affectionately known as Carmelita, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence on April 5, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in the picturesque city of Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, on April 14, 1938, she was the cherished daughter of the late Antonio and Ilda (Batista) Vieira. Carmelita's warmth and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love and courage that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Carmelita was the beloved wife of Manuel Moura, with whom she shared many years of unwavering companionship and love. She was also the wife of the late Leonardo Joao, with whom she built a foundation of family and shared joy. As a mother, she poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children, Richard Joao of Milbury, MA, Nidia Barker of East Providence, and Grace Cunha of Seekonk, MA. She was also the stepmother of Ruben Moura, and Priscilla Moura, both of Portugal. Her guidance and support shaped their lives, and her spirit will continue to live on through them.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Carmelita was a caring sister to Sidonio Vieira, Helidora Gouveia, Zita Milho of East Providence, and the late Arlindo Vieira. Her role as a grandmother was one she held dear, offering love and wisdom to her grandchildren Michelle Cunha, Stephanie Cunha, Christopher Dias, Scott Joao, Robert Joao, and Patrick Joao. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Jacob Twitchel, Isaac Twitchel, Emilia Twitchel, Catarina Marques, and Christopher Dias, Jr. The memory of her late grandson, Leo S. Dias Jr., will forever be treasured in her heart.
Carmelita's extended family was a testament to her loving nature, as she was also survived by five nieces, four nephews, and their families who will miss her dearly. Her ability to create a bond of love and kinship with everyone she encountered was truly remarkable.
Throughout her life, Carmelita was dedicated to her work as a homecare person for the Donnelly's Stores. Her commitment to serving others was evident in the care and attention she provided to those she worked with. Her involvement in the community was deeply rooted in a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Carmelita's passions were many and varied. She relished the opportunity to travel, experiencing new cultures and creating lasting memories. Her love for gardening was reflected in the beautiful flowers and plants that surrounded her home, a symbol of her ability to cultivate beauty in the world. Crocheting and reading Portuguese novels were among her favorite pastimes, allowing her to express her creativity and immerse herself in the stories of her heritage. As an excellent seamstress, Carmelita's skillful hands brought to life the fabrics she worked with, each stitch a testament to her patience and artistry.
Above all, Carmelita cherished the moments spent with her family. Her home was a hub of laughter, conversation, and the joys of togetherness. The love she shared with her family was her greatest treasure, and she embraced every opportunity to create memories that would last a lifetime.
The words that best describe Carmelita are loving, generous, and courageous. Her strength in the face of adversity, her capacity to give without expecting anything in return, and her boundless love for those around her are the hallmarks of her character. She was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and her legacy of kindness and benevolence will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Carmelita V. (Vieira) Moura lived a life rich in experiences, relationships, and love. Her memory will be cherished and honored by all who were touched by her presence.
