Charles McGowan Obituary

East Providence - Charles M. McGowan, 85, a cherished resident of East Providence since 1964, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI, on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Born on October 7, 1939, in Providence, RI, Charles was the beloved son of the late Arthur F. and Mary (Devlin) McGowan, and the devoted husband to his late wife, Joyce L. (Pacheco) McGowan.

Charles, known affectionately to friends and family as a loving and kind man, leaves behind a legacy of warmth and creativity. He is survived by his children, David McGowan and his husband Jeffrey Stewart of Providence, and Tracey L. McGowan-Finkbeiner and her husband Don Finkbeiner of East Providence. Charles's memory will also be treasured by his siblings, Daniel McGowan, John McGowan, Margaret Mary "Peggy" Burke, and Jo-Ann McGowan. He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph McGowan, Eleanor Pistocco, and Mary Theresa McGowan. A cherished uncle, Charles will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, who will miss his gentle guidance and whimsical doodles.

Before retiring, Charles dedicated many years of diligent service as a shipping clerk for the former Monet Jewelry Company. His work ethic and commitment to his role were a testament to his character, a steadfast and reliable presence to his colleagues and friends.

A man of faith, Charles was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence, and Community Covenant Church in Rehoboth, MA, where he found solace and community. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and guidance throughout his journey.

Charles's zest for life was evident in his active lifestyle. A fitness buff, he could often be found exercising, embodying the vitality and discipline that he carried into all aspects of his life. His competitive spirit and love for leisure were perfectly balanced in his enjoyment of playing cornhole, a game that brought him joy and camaraderie.

An avid reader, Charles found comfort and adventure in the pages of books, traveling through stories and expanding his knowledge and imagination. His creative spirit shone through his artistic pursuits; he had a particular talent for doodling and drawing characters, bringing to life whimsical and endearing creations that reflected his playful heart.

Above all, Charles's favorite companions were his dogs, Major, Bronson, Kelsey, Nicky, and Diesel. Though they predeceased him, the memories of training and caring for his beloved pets provided a source of endless happiness and fulfillment. His love for his furry friends was unparalleled, and their presence enriched his life immeasurably.

Charles M. McGowan will be remembered as a man who embraced life with love, kindness, and a spark of creativity. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and influence the lives of his family and friends. As we bid farewell to Charles, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of cherished moments and enduring love. His journey on earth has concluded, but his story will be recounted with affection and admiration for generations to come.
