Johnston - Cheryl A. (Bassett) Pimental,74, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24,
2025, at Stillwater Nursing Home in Greenville, RI. Born on February 19,1950 in Providence, RI,
she was a beacon of joy and kindness in the lives of all who knew her.
Cheryl was the cherished wife of the late Dennis D. Pimental and the beloved daughter of the
late George and Doris (Lusignan) Bassett. She was a devoted mother to Amy Desorcy and her
husband David, and Richard Pompei and his wife Rita. A caring stepmother to Robin Pimental
Spicuzza and her husband Richard, Karen Pimental, and Dennis R. Pimental and his wife
Maryanne. Her sister, Deborah Bassett and her husband Steven Thomas, as well as her late
brother Richard Bassett and his wife Claudette, held a special place in her heart. Cheryl was a
proud grandmother to Grace, Lizzie, Matthew, Bella, Zach, and Brady, whom she adored
immensely.
An alumnus of the former Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, Cheryl's professional life was
marked by her role as a Legal Secretary. She dedicated over two decades of service, most
recently at the Jessup and Conroy Law Offices. Since 1990, she resided in Johnston, having
moved from Riverside and was a former parishioner of St. Brendan Church.
Cheryl's involvement in her community was extensive and heartfelt. She was an active member
of Smithfield Lodge #2359 where she held esteemed positions such as Loyal Knight, Leading
Knight, and Lodge Secretary. She was lovingly referred to as "Mom" of the lodge, a testament to
the warmth and guidance she provided to fellow members.
Her interests were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. Cheryl had a profound love for the
arts, including drawing and scrapbooking. She also had a deep passion for dancing and music;
as evident in her time as a member of the North Kingstown Community Chorus and frequent
visits to shows at the Providence Performing Arts Center. An excellent cook and baker, Cheryl
was always delighted to host family and friends for the holidays.
An avid journalist, Cheryl left the following message to her family: “When I die, I believe that I
will be able to watch over my family. I will be close to each of you. Even though you won't see
me anymore, I will always be with you. I will hear you if you talk to me. I may not be able to
answer you but I promise I will love you and all of my family forever!”
Cheryl's legacy will live on through the countless lives she impacted, the memories shared, and
the love she spread. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all those
fortunate enough to have known her. Cheryl’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-
lived, filled with love, laughter, and happiness. She will be sincerely missed and eternally
cherished.
