Cranston - Deborah A. (Bedard) Souza, a cherished soul known affectionately as Deborah to her loved ones, passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Born on February 21, 1958, in Cranston, RI, Deborah's life was a testament to love, care, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
The beloved wife of Russell Souza, Deborah's love story spanned nearly five decades, having celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary just days before her passing on May 1, 2025. The daughter of the late Arthur and Victoria (Moretti) Bedard, she grew up in a nurturing environment that set the foundation for her own role as a mother to Michele Souza of Cranston, and as a sister to Richard Bedard of Scituate and Arthur Bedard of Providence. Her warmth extended to her role as an aunt to Lorna, Lauren, Nicholas, Jordan, Lily, and David, each of whom she adored with all her heart.
Professionally, Deborah dedicated over 40 years of compassionate service as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Cedar Crest Nursing Home. Her lifelong residency in Cranston and her deep faith as a parishioner of St. Mary's Church were integral parts of her identity. Deborah's commitment to her work and her community reflected the selfless nature that all who knew her admired.
Deborah's interests showcased her love for the simple pleasures in life. She found joy in the tranquility of gardening, the beauty of flowers, and the comfort of a good book. Her hands were rarely idle, as she was often found crocheting, knitting, and cooking—creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love and delicious aromas. A proud homebody, Deborah took delight in maintaining a clean and cozy environment for her family. Her shopping trips were less about the purchases and more about the joy of finding the perfect gifts to express her generous spirit.
Animals, especially her dogs, held a special place in Deborah's heart. She approached pet ownership with the same loving care she gave to every aspect of her life. Those who knew her could attest to her affinity for all living things, a trait that further highlighted her nurturing personality.
Deborah's life was a living example of love in action. The words that best describe her—loving, generous, and selfless—only scratch the surface of the profound impact she had on those around her. Her gentle presence and the quiet strength she exuded will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.
As we say goodbye to Deborah A. Souza, we carry forward the lessons of kindness and compassion she embodied. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will continue to inspire acts of love and selflessness for generations to come.
