Domingas Duarte Obituary

Pawtucket - Domingas (Goio) Duarte, 91, affectionately known as Domingas to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Steere House in Providence, Rhode Island. Born on September 10, 1934, in the picturesque island of Brava, Cape Verde, she was a daughter of the late Pedro and Eugenia (Oliveira) Goio. Domingas was the cherished wife of the late Antonio Miranda, and together they shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

Domingas's life was one marked by a deep commitment to her family and her faith. She was a loving mother to Manuel Miranda of Cape Verde, Rosa Gomes, Eliana Gomez, Alcinda Miranda, Aldina Conceicao, Eugenia Fernandes, Alice Miranda, and Ana Miranda. Her warmth and guidance were the cornerstone of her family, and she was a nurturing grandmother to 16 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 4 great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Laura Oliveira, Rosa DeVeiga, Idilia Garcia, and she also mourned the loss of her sister Maria Duarte, but her memory continues to shine in the lives of her many nieces and nephews.

A long-time resident of Pawtucket since her arrival from Portugal in 1990, Domingas was a dedicated parishioner of St. Anthony Church. Her faith was the compass that guided her through life, and she was an active member of the church community, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.

Domingas's working years were spent as an assembler at Interpak, but her true vocation was that of a homemaker, a role she embraced with joy and dedication. Her home was a haven of comfort and love, where all were welcome, and her nurturing spirit was felt by all who crossed her threshold.

Traveling was one of Domingas's passions, especially her trips back to Cape Verde, where she reconnected with her roots and the beauty of her birthplace. However, her greatest pleasure was found in the simple moments spent with her family, whose company she cherished above all else.

Those who knew Domingas will remember her as the embodiment of love, kindness, and faith. She approached life with a gentle strength and an unwavering spirit that inspired everyone around her. Her legacy is one of compassion, devotion to her loved ones, and an unshakable belief in the goodness of others.

Domingas's journey through life was a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take solace in the countless memories she leaves behind—a tapestry of a life well-lived and a heart that knew no bounds. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she touched, and her spirit will guide us always.
