Donald R. Monahan

Providence – Donald R. Monahan, 90, of Providence, formerly of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Virginia C. (Massaroco) Monahan for sixty-five years.

Born in Providence, RI, on October 5, 1933, Don was a loving son of the late William H. Monahan and Ora I. (Hartling) Monahan. He grew up in Providence and graduated from Hope High School in 1951. Don held numerous jobs in sales and eventually owned his own first aid supply business.

Don had a passion for sports, especially football and hockey, and enjoyed traveling, politics, reading, and people-watching. He cherished spending time with his family, including his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was actively involved with various organizations, including the East Providence Little League, the East Providence Zoning Board, the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, Saint Martha's Parish's Food Pantry, and the Parish's finance committee.

In addition to his beloved wife, Virginia, Don is survived by his devoted children: Donna Langlois and her husband Walter of Sandwich, MA; Dana Gleadow and her husband Scott of Tiverton, RI; and David Monahan and his wife Nadean of Rumford, RI. He was the dear brother of Walter Monahan, Jean Sanford, and Carol Imbruglia, and was predeceased by his brothers William Monahan and Alan Monahan. Don was a cherished grandfather to many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. The Reverend Mary Alice Sullivan will officiate. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
