Donna Marie (Bessette) Couto

 East Providence - Donna Marie (Bessette) Couto 73, of East Providence, known affectionately to all as Donna, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at RI Hospital in Providence, RI. Born on July 25, 1951, in Acushnet, Massachusetts, Donna was a daughter of the late Raymond and Lucy (Rostocki) Bessette. She was a cherished resident of East Providence for over 60 years, having moved from New Bedford early in her life.

Donna’s life was a testament to love and dedication, as evidenced by her over 55-year-long marriage to her beloved husband, John Moniz Couto. Together, they built a legacy of warmth and family values that she held dear to her heart. Donna was a loving mother to John M. Couto, Jr. of East Providence, and Jennifer Pelkey and her husband Brian of North Scituate, RI. Her role as a grandmother to Kevin, Jr., Derek, Corey, and Drew, and as a great-grandmother to Lillie, Blake, Aubrey, Eliana, Noah, and Kaiden, brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

A woman of many passions, Donna was an avid animal activist who harbored a special love for dogs. Her empathy for animals was just one aspect of her kind and thoughtful nature. Donna also found solace in the pages of books, and she cherished the comfort of a clean and fresh-smelling home. However, above all else, her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. The moments shared with her family were the ones she treasured the most.

Those who knew Donna would describe her as loving, kind, and thoughtful. She had the ability to uplift those around her with her gentle words and considerate actions. Donna's kindness extended beyond her family; it was felt by friends, neighbors, and the many lives she touched throughout her years.

Donna's legacy is one of love, family, and kindness. Her memory will be honored and cherished by her loving family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit, characterized by compassion and generosity, will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.

As we say farewell to Donna Marie (Bessette) Couto, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her passing leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will be a beacon of love and kindness for generations to come.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 11:00am – 12:00pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence.

Followed by a prayer service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
