Doris Ann (Butler) Dorsey

 Warwick --Doris A. (Butler) Dorsey, of Warwick fondly known as Doris, passed away peacefully in West Shore Health Center, Warwick, RI on June 28, 2023. Born in East Providence, RI on April 3, 1931, Doris lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.

Doris was born in East Providence, the beloved daughter of the late Earl V. and Essie V. (Peterson) Butler Sr. She was the cherished sister of the late Earl V. Butler Jr., William G. Butler, and Edna Waters. Doris was the former wife of the late Wilbert Dorsey, and together they raised a beautiful family. She was the loving mother of Thomas and his wife Maria Dorsey of Warwick, Duane and his wife Vera Dorsey of Warwick, and Karen Johnson and her late husband Michael of Providence. Her family was her pride and joy, including her ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Doris also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.

She was the sister of the late Earl V. Butler, Jr, William G. Butler, and Edna Waters.

Professionally, Doris served as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for many years at various facilities, dedicating her life to the care and well-being of others. She retired from the State of Rhode Island as an Institutional Attendant, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and professionalism.

She has lived in Warwick for over 10 years, coming from Providence and Queens, NY, when she was much younger. 

Doris was a woman of faith and a long-time parishioner of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence. Her faith was an important part of her life and provided her with strength and comfort throughout her journey.

Her interests were as varied as they were numerous. Doris had a love for travel, with memorable trips to Barbados and Key West, Florida. She had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her garden, creating a colorful and tranquil oasis. Her hands were rarely still, often found sewing or turning the pages of a beloved book. Doris was a lover of music and dancing, her infectious laughter and joy earning her the affectionate nickname "Betty Boop" from her family. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren at various family functions, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Doris was a woman of many wonderful attributes. She was loving, always ready with a warm hug or a comforting word. She was funny, her sense of humor bringing smiles to the faces of those around her. She was adventurous, unafraid to try new things and explore new places. These qualities made her a joy to be around and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In remembering Doris, we celebrate a life well-lived. A life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. A life that touched many and left a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family and friends. Doris A. (Butler) Dorsey was a remarkable woman whose spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those who loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend, her calling hours on Saturday July 15, 2023, from 10:30am - 11:00am followed by her funeral, at 11:00AM in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence

Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence
