Dulce "Dui" Tereza (Oliveira) Tavares

Providence - Dulce Tereza Ledo Oliveira Tavares, affectionately known as Dui to her friends and family, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, January 28, 2026, at the age of 90. 

She was the beloved daughter of Assis Jose de Oliveira and Benvinda Ledo born on August 9, 1935, in Brava, Cabo Verde.

  She traveled throughout West Africa and Europe in her youth before immigrating with her family to East Providence, RI in the late 1970s. Dui had a jovial spirit and was devoted to her belief in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

  Dui was the loving wife of the late Antonio Lopes Tavares.  She was also preceded in death by her brother Joao Ledo, and her sisters Dalila Burgo, Henriqueta Barbosa, Lucilia Teixeira de Oliveria.

She is remembered by her surviving children Antonia Brooks, Graciette Tavares, and Nancy Tavares along with her brother, Enrique Teixeira de Oliveira as well as grandchildren, Deray and Amayah Brooks along with numerous very devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

 As we bid farewell to Dulce "Dui" Tavares, we celebrate a life filled with laughter and storytelling.

She will be remembered by many in loving and warm memories.  Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm followed by the funeral home service at 12:30 pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence.  Burial will follow at Rumford Cemetery in Rumford, RI.
