Eliza Costa Obituary

East Providence -Eliza M. (Macedo) Costa, a cherished and devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Hope Hospice in Providence, at the age of 82. Eliza, known lovingly by her friends and family, was born on September 2, 1942, in the quaint village of Granja De Jales, Portugal, to her late parents, Antonio and Palmira (Rodrigues) Macedo. She carried the warmth of her homeland in her heart throughout her life.

Eliza was the beloved wife of the late Albertino Costa, and together they shared a life rich with love and dedication. She was a loving mother and mother-in-law to Armindo and Florinda Costa, of Rumford, Zeferino and Lurdes Costa of Rumford, Antonio "Manny" and Susan Costa of East Providence, Virgilio and Ana Cristina Costa of East Providence, and Jack and Paula Costa of Seekonk. Her role as a grandmother was one she cherished deeply, leaving behind a legacy through her 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Eliza's siblings were an integral part of her life, providing a close-knit bond that spanned continents. She is survived by Rui Macedo of Rumford; Zeferino Macedo, Antonio Macedo, Jose Baptista Macedo, Virginia Macedo, and Argentina Macedo, all of Portugal; and she was predeceased by her brother Agostinho Macedo. Her extended family of nieces and nephews remember her fondly for her wisdom and nurturing spirit.

After moving to East Providence in 1990, from Fox Point and originally from Portugal, Eliza quickly became a respected member of her new community. She dedicated over 25 years of her life as a machine operator at the Harwood Manufacturing Company. Her colleagues knew her as a hardworking and reliable individual, traits that were deeply appreciated by all who worked alongside her.

Eliza was a devout parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she found solace and community. Her faith was an integral part of her identity, guiding her through life's challenges and joys. She was intelligent and faith-filled, qualities that were evident in her approach to life's obstacles and her commitment to her spiritual beliefs.

A lover of culture and heritage, Eliza often returned to Portugal, the land of her birth, where she reconnected with her roots and indulged in the beauty of her homeland. Her passion for cooking was renowned, and her family will forever cherish the memories of time spent in the kitchen, where love was the most important ingredient in every dish she prepared.

Eliza's love for her family was unparalleled, and she made it her life's mission to ensure that they were cared for, supported, and loved. Her intelligence was not just in her mind but in her actions, as she navigated life with grace and wisdom, teaching those around her the value of strength and compassion.

To know Eliza was to know love in its purest form. She will be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of those she touched. Her laughter, her stories, and the warmth of her presence have left an indelible mark on her family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the values she instilled and the memories she created with her loved ones.  Eliza M. (Macedo) Costa's life was a testament to the power of love and faith. As her family and friends bid her farewell, they take solace in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire them in all their days to come.
