Riverside, RI - Evelyn P. Braxton, 71, of Riverside, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Braxton, Jr. Born in the Bronx, NY, on November 19, 1952, she was a loving daughter of the late Horace Smith and Mary (Edwards) Smith.
Evelyn grew up in Providence and was a 1971 graduate of Hope High School. She eventually obtained certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for many years as a caregiver for hospice patients.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Evelyn was an active member of the Zion Gospel Temple in East Providence. She loved singing her Lord and Savior's praises and was devoted to her church community. She enjoyed watching tennis and football and was an avid New England Patriots fan, recently becoming a Patrick Mahomes fan. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, who were her world.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted sons: Joseph Braxton of Rumford, RI, and Joshua Braxton of Fort Worth, TX. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren: Jalin Braxton, Jeron Braxton, and Jade Braxton, all of East Providence; and Brielle Braxton and Braelyn Braxton of Fort Worth, TX.
