Fatima Maria (Meneses) DaPonte, known affectionately as Fatima to her friends and family, passed away peacefully and suddenly on Tuesday ,March 12, 2024, at Blake Hospital in West Bradenton, Florida. Born on July 31, 1952, in Terceira, Azores, she was a beacon of love and faith throughout her 71 years.
Fatima's life was characterized by her loving nature, kindness, and unwavering faith. These traits were the cornerstone of her life, which was filled with joy, service, and devotion to her beloved family. She was the cherished wife of Agostinho DaPonte, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage, a milestone they were eagerly looking forward to celebrating in September 2024. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect.
The daughter of the late Juvelino and Maria Genoveva (Ormonde) Meneses, Fatima inherited a rich legacy of strength and compassion. She was a devoted mother to her children, Dennis DaPonte and his girlfriend Lisa of Pawtucket, and Christina Bucci and her husband James of Johnston. Her guidance and love shaped their lives profoundly, and her legacy will continue to live on through them.
Fatima was a beloved sister to Angela Kinder and Maria DaRocha, both of Florida, and she held the memory of her late brother Jose Meneses close to her heart. Her extended family included her cherished in-laws, Alfred and Connie DaPonte, Manuel and Adrianne DaPonte, David and Lisa DaPonte, Leonore Rodrigues, and Maria DeMedeiros, Jose and Agnes Ganhadeiro all of whom she loved dearly. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
For over 30 years, Fatima dedicated her professional life to the EFD Jewelry Company, where she worked as a machine operator. Her work ethic and commitment to her role were a testament to her character. She was not only a valued employee but also a trusted colleague and friend to many.
Fatima's love for her community was evident in her active participation in the St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence, where she had lived for over 50 years after emigrating from Portugal. She was deeply involved in the church's activities, contributing her time and energy to various initiatives and events. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she found great solace and joy in the fellowship of her church community.
Her interests were as varied as they were fulfilling. An avid reader, she found great pleasure in the pages of a good book. Traveling was another passion, allowing her to explore new places and cultures, which she did with enthusiasm and an open heart. Fatima was also a fan of crosswords, a hobby that provided her with both challenge and relaxation. However, her greatest joy was found in the simple pleasures of spending time with her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
Fatima's love for flowers mirrored her own life—vibrant, beautiful, and nurturing. She cultivated beauty not only in her garden but also in the lives of those around her. Her warmth and generosity of spirit made her a beloved figure in her community and an irreplaceable presence in the lives of her family and friends.
In remembering Fatima, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on the lives of many. She was a woman of grace, a pillar of strength, and a true embodiment of love. Her memory will be treasured, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Fatima Maria (Meneses) DaPonte's life was a testament to the power of love and faith. She will be profoundly missed by all who were touched by her kindness and blessed by her presence.
