Glenn Johnson Obituary

RUMFORD - Glenn J. Johnson, 73, of Rumford, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at home. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. "Trish" (Nolan) Johnson, to whom he was wed on March 15, 1997.

Born in North Tonawanda, New York, on June 8, 1951, Glenn was a loving son of the late Allen A. Johnson and Laura (Heft) Johnson. He grew up in North Tonawanda, a suburb of the greater Buffalo area, and was a 1969 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, where he excelled at swimming and also played football. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Niagara Community College, which he attended until he had to answer his country's call.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Glenn served his country during the Vietnam War, having been stationed in Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. Following his military service, Glenn worked in sales for thirty years until his retirement in 2015.

Glenn was a true Civil War buff and a longtime member of the Civil War Preservation Society. He traveled extensively, visiting nearly all Civil War battlefields, and as a veteran himself, he was deeply moved by each one, reflecting on the events that unfolded there and the freedoms still enjoyed today because of those sacrifices.

An avid reader, gardener, and golfer, Glenn enjoyed golfing at various courses. He was a great cook and grill master, relishing cooking for family gatherings. He and Trish's home was the go-to spot for family cookouts. Glenn was known for his lighthearted sense of humor and loved to razz his family members, always bringing laughter and joy to their gatherings. He loved music of all genres, depending on his mood, and even possessed his own musical talent, playing bass in a band when younger.

Glenn was a doting uncle and had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, teaching them how to swim when they were young and being a listening ear and advisor as they grew. He was a truly selfless man who shied away from the limelight. A gentle soul, he will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his devoted wife of twenty-seven years, Trish, Glenn is survived by his brother, William Johnson of North Carolina; and his in-laws, who considered him their brother, Kathleen Nolan of Rumford, John Nolan of Lincoln, Carole Rego and her husband Tony of Rumford, and Bill Nolan and his wife Deb of North Attleboro. He also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews to mourn his passing.

He was the brother of the late Arnold Johnson and Rebecca Petrowski, son-in-law of the late James and Catherine Nolan, and brother-in-law of the late Madonna Nolan, Thomas Nolan, and James Nolan.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. Reverend Pamela Corcoran will officiate. Interment with full United States Army honors will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, 661 Prospect Street, Pawtucket. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.

May Glenn rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories of those who cherished him.
