Grady Mitchell Miles, 37, of Riverside, RI, passed away unexpectantly at Rhode Island Hospital on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. After a brave and difficult battle with depression, Grady’s pain became unbearable and he chose to end his life. We are heartbroken but will forever be deeply grateful for his presence in our lives.
The cherished son of Rhonda Mitchell (Bristol, RI) and Bill Miles, Jr. (Tucson, AZ), Grady was born February 18, 1987. He was raised in Tucson and had lived in Rhode Island since 2013.
Grady was a graduate of Pima Community College and attended Northern Arizona University, majoring in engineering. He worked as a process and quality engineer for manufacturing organizations in the Providence area, most recently with Confluent Medical Technologies.
An expert in fixing practically anything and adept at working on his trucks and cars, Grady also loved the outdoors – beach days and paddleboarding on Narragansett Bay, boating and fishing, hunting in Arizona with his father and grandfather; and family snowboarding trips.
Grady was an avid video gamer, loved Sunday breakfasts (especially his favorite biscuits-and-gravy), and family get-togethers and card nights. He was a star high school soccer player, continuing to play in adult leagues. Grady especially loved dogs and was devoted to his beautiful golden retriever, Toby.
In addition to his parents, Grady is survived by his beloved sister Cassie Grissom, her husband Jason, and their son Holden of Austin, Texas. Cassie and Grady were very close throughout their lives, enjoying a special brother-sister bond that was truly loving and wonderful to see.
He is also survived by his loving stepmother Julie Miles; siblings John Andrew and Shenée Bennett, all of Tucson, and extended family including John, Virginia and Katie Celmer of Denver, Colorado; sister Valerie (Miles) Pearlman of Chicago, Illinois; aunts Melinda Rutherford of Greensburg, Indiana, and Karen (JD) Brown of Tucson; and uncle Richard (SueAnn) Miles of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his adored grandparents Bill and Gerry Miles, of Tucson, and his aunt Karen Miles.
Grady will be profoundly missed. His time on this earth may be over, but our memories of his kindness, gentle strength, and unwavering love will endure in our hearts forever. Grady, rest in peace now.
A Celebration of Grady’s life will be planned later. In lieu of flowers and if you wish, please feel free to contribute to an animal charity of your choice, in any way you prefer.
Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.
