Herminio Freitas Obituary

North Providence - Herminio Clemente Freitas, 93, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Born on March 22, 1932, in Faial da Terra, ilha de St. Michael, Azores. Herminio was a man whose life was defined by devotion to his family, his country, and his faith.

Herminio, affectionately known as Hermínio to his loved ones, was the beloved husband of Eduarda (Rodrigues) Freitas, with whom he shared over 65 joyous years of marriage. He was the proud son of the late Joao Clemente and Maria Lourdes (Resendes) De Freitas and a loving brother to the late Amorino Freitas, Antonio Freitas, Natalia Violante, Natevidade Aragao, and Lourdes Fiesta.  Also survived by many nephews and nieces.

His legacy includes his devoted children, Luis Freitas and his wife Cristina of North Providence, and Fatima Freitas of Boca Raton, Florida. Hermínio's joy was multiplied as he became the grandfather to Nelson Freitas, Andrea Freitas, Jonathan Freitas, Neil Freitas, Shane Virtue, and Bella Virtue, and the great-grandfather to Jacob Freitas, Madelyn Freitas, Julian Freitas, Angelina Rodrigues, and Relic Freitas. Each of them was a testament to his profound love and the values he instilled.

Hermínio served with honor and dedication in the Portuguese Air Force for over 45 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant and working diligently in the treasury department before his well-deserved retirement. His commitment to service and excellence was a hallmark of his character and left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.

A parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Hermínio's faith was a cornerstone of his life. Since his arrival in North Providence in 1979, from Lisbon, Portugal, he became an integral part of the community. His involvement with local associations such as Benfica of Cumberland and Club Beneficiente of Pawtucket reflected his love for his cultural heritage and his desire to connect with others.

Hermínio's interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. He had a passion for playing cards, which he shared with friends and family alike. His garden and pristine lawn were sources of great pride and joy, serving as a reflection of his care and attention to detail. Traveling the world brought him immense pleasure, but nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandchildren and family, which was truly his greatest delight.

Described by those who knew him as loving, kind, and faith-filled, Hermínio's warm presence and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering kindness, his commitment to his loved ones, and his deep-rooted faith have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

As we bid farewell to Hermínio Clemente Freitas, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire generations to come. His memory will be cherished and honored, and his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
