East Providence -Idalina Monteiro (Mendonca) Dwinnell,67, known affectionately as Ida to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at her home in East Providence, Rhode Island, on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Born on March 12, 1958, in the beautiful island of Santa Maria, Azores, Ida was a beacon of love and generosity, whose presence enriched the lives of those around her.
Ida's journey took her from the scenic landscapes of the Azores to the vibrant communities of Providence, and eventually to East Providence, where she lived for over 46 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Don Dwinnell and the cherished daughter of the late Manuel and Jesuina (Monteiro) Mendonca. Her spirit is carried on by her loving children, Melissa Mendonca and Dawn Dwinnell, her devoted siblings Jaime Mendonca, Dennis Mendonca, and she was predeceased by her brother Oswaldo Mendonca.
Ida's nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family to her role as a doting aunt to Mary Grace Cabral and Michelle Mendonca. Her grandchildren, Tyler Vieira, Sabrina Fisher, Isiah Fisher, and Jahnile Mendonca, were the light of her life, and she delighted in their every achievement and milestone. Her joy was further multiplied with the birth of her great-grandchild, Ares Vieira, who brought a new spark of happiness into her world.
Professionally, Ida dedicated many years of service as a machine operator at M.H. Stallman Manufacturing. Her work ethic and commitment to her role were evident to all who worked alongside her. Ida's faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was a devout parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and formerly at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and triumphs, and she found solace and community within her church family.
Traveling was one of Ida's greatest joys, as it allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories. However, nothing compared to the time she spent with her grandchildren, where every moment was cherished and every laugh shared was a treasure.
Ida will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous soul. Her unwavering support and warm-hearted nature left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the legacy of her love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
As we bid farewell to Ida, we hold close the memory of her radiant smile, her gentle touch, and her boundless capacity for love. Her story is one of unwavering dedication to her family, steadfast faith, and the countless moments of joy and kindness that defined her life.
