Ivo Cardoso Obituary

Seekonk - Ivo Maia Cardoso, known to many simply as Ivo, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Hope Hospice, at the age of 89.

He was born on November 29, 1936, in Terceira, Azores, and he lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and hard work. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria Olivete (Diniz) Cardoso, and the son of the late Carlos and Margarida (Maia) Cardoso. Ivo carried the values of his upbringing with him throughout his life, and those who knew him remember him as a loving, kind, and faith-filled man whose presence brought comfort and strength to those around him.

Ivo was the devoted father of George Cardoso and his wife Deanna of Kissimmee, Florida, Belina Nunes and her husband Manuel of Middletown, Ct., and Theresa Martins and her husband Mario of Pawtucket. He was a proud brother to Carlos Cardoso of Pawtucket and Dolores Rodrigues of Orlando, Florida, and he was predeceased by his sisters Maria Wolfe and Merces Silva. His family was the center of his life, and he was deeply proud of the generations that followed him. He was the cherished grandfather of Manny, Meagan, Matthew, Hannah, Jessica, Serrena and her wife Cheyenne, Kaitlyn and her husband Jake, and Kelsey and her husband Jeff, and the loving great-grandfather of Kinsley, Callum, and Evelyn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Ivo was employed as a machine operator for Key Container Corp. for more than 32 years. He approached his work with reliability and pride, and he earned the respect of coworkers and friends through his steady presence and strong work ethic. After moving to Seekonk in 1988, he made his home there with gratitude and care, having previously lived in Pawtucket from 1968 to 1988. Before settling in Rhode Island, he had lived in Portugal, carrying with him the traditions and memories of his homeland throughout his life.

Faith was an important part of Ivo’s life, and he was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church. He was also a member of the Holy Spirit Society at St. Anthony, the Amigos De Terceira of Pawtucket, and the Banda Nova Alliance of Pawtucket. These associations reflected his strong ties to his community and his heritage, and he valued the fellowship and shared traditions they provided. He found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life, especially gardening, fishing, and hunting, and he appreciated the peace and satisfaction that came from spending time outdoors.

Ivo will be remembered for the quiet strength he brought to his family, the loyalty he showed to his friends, and the steadfast faith that guided his life. He was a man of deep character, gentle spirit, and enduring love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His long life was a testament to devotion, perseverance, and the bonds of family and community. Though he will be deeply missed, the legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness, faith, and love that will continue to be felt for generations.
