James Desorcy Obituary

Riverside - James J. Desorcy,80, known affectionately to his friends and family as Jimmy, passed away peacefully at his home in Riverside, RI,  , May 21, 2024. Born on May 8, 1944, in Pawtucket, RI, Jimmy was a man whose life was marked by a profound dedication to his loved ones, his work, and his community.

Jimmy was the cherished husband of Mildred (Leiter) Desorcy, with whom he shared over 47 years of loving marriage. He was the proud son of the late Roland and Marion (Merow) Desorcy. As a devoted father, he leaves behind a legacy in his children: Christopher Desorcy of Montana, Craig Desorcy of Japan, Jeanne Reilly and her husband Jerry of Florida, Karen Desorcy of Texas, Jaimie Tippett of Riverside, Jennifer Desorcy of East Providence, and Jodie Desorcy of East Providence. Jimmy was a doting grandfather of 13 and a great-grandfather of 2, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

He was the beloved brother of Elaine Malo of Pawtucket and the brother-in-law of Helen Desorcy of North Kingstown. Jimmy was predeceased by his siblings, Roland Desorcy, Robert Desorcy, Marion Driscoll, and Gloria Garrett, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews. His dog Toni, his pride and joy, will miss his loving companionship.

Jimmy was a self-employed roofing contractor, affectionately known in the community as "Jimmy the roofer." His reputation for quality work and dependability was well-known, as was his tenure with the Leo Fournier Construction Company. His work not only provided for his family but also helped shape the skyline of his beloved hometown.

A resident of Riverside since 1982, having moved from East Providence, Jimmy was a familiar face to many. He was a member of St. Brendan Church, where he found spiritual solace and camaraderie. His interests were as varied as they were passionate. A lover of the outdoors, Jimmy found peace and pleasure in fishing, especially at Sabins Point.

He also enjoyed spending time at his home in New Hampshire, that was his little piece of heaven, quiet, peaceful near lake Winnipesaukee , and also enjoyed going to the arcade at Weir’s  Beach .

He was also known for the sanctuary of his man cave, a place where he could unwind and indulge in his hobbies. Jimmy celebrated his 80th birthday with a sense of triumph, having bravely battled cancer for two years. His courage during this time was an inspiration to all who knew him. The words that best describe Jimmy are handy, courageous, and friendly. His ability to fix almost anything was matched only by his unwavering strength and his warm, welcoming nature.

Jimmy will be remembered for his generous spirit, his hearty laugh, and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. As a man who enriched the lives of all who knew him, Jimmy's memory will be treasured and kept alive through the stories and memories shared by those who loved him.

As we bid farewell to James J. Desorcy, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a presence that will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace knowing that his life was one of profound impact, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
