CUMBERLAND – James J. “Monty” Monteiro, Sr., 43, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
Born in Pawtucket on November 12, 1981, he was a loving son of Orlando C. Garcia and Pamala L. (Monteiro) Garcia of Cumberland. Monty grew up in Barrington and was a 2001 graduate of Barrington High School.
He worked for many years as a mechanic alongside his dad in the family business, OPC Towing in Cumberland. Monty had a big heart and a great sense of humor. He loved fishing and could always be counted on to make someone laugh — but more than anything, family was at the center of his world. His heart was always in the right place, no matter the circumstances.
In addition to his parents, Orlando and Pamala, he is survived by his cherished children: James J. Monteiro, Jr. of Burrillville; Jaylynn Monteiro of Woonsocket; and Kaylynn Monteiro of Barrington.
He was the dear brother of Crystal Garcia, Heather Ryan, and Pamela Roche, all of Barrington; Andrea Garcia and Jovani Garcia, both of Cumberland; Jacklyn Delarosa Pagan of Cranston; and Jose R. Delarosa of Providence.
Visitation, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home beginning promptly at 7:00 PM, officiated by the Reverend Jorge Rocha.
