Janet Costa Obituary

Janet J. (Fratus) Costa, 85, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Born on September 15, 1939, in Providence Janet’s journey was one marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

Janet, the cherished wife of the late Frank Costa, Jr., embodied the virtues of love and commitment in every aspect of her life. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Andrade) Fratus and grew up in a home filled with warmth and compassion, values she carried forward into her own family. As a dedicated mother and mother-in-law, she provided guidance and support to Kevin and Christine Costa of North Providence, Veronica and Manuel F. Medeiros of Warwick. Janet's role as a sister and sister-in-law was equally treasured, remembering the late Virginia and William Sanford with fondness and love. She was a doting aunt to Theodore Sanford and held the memory of the late Valerie Vaccaro close to her heart.

Janet's legacy extends to her adored grandchildren, Stephanie Costa, Andrew Pierce, and CaraMia Costa, and her great-grandchildren, Hannah and Madyson, who will forever cherish the wisdom and joy she imparted. Her love, a constant and gentle presence, will continue to guide them through the chapters of their lives.

Professionally, Janet was known for her diligence and attention to detail during her tenure as a secretary for a ceramic molds and box manufacturer, a role she held for over a decade. Her colleagues respected her for her work ethic and the kindness she extended to all.

For over 62 years, Janet was a proud resident of Riverside, having moved from East Providence, where she began her life's journey. Her community was a source of strength and fulfillment, and she served as a devoted parishioner of St. Brendan Church, where her faith found a home and flourished.

Janet's interests were a reflection of her zest for life and her love for adventure. She found joy in camping and the excitement of visiting a casino, experiences that brought her great pleasure and laughter. Her commitment to fellowship was evident in her long-standing membership with the Knights of Columbus, Ladies Auxiliary, where she forged lasting friendships and contributed to numerous charitable endeavors.

Those who knew Janet will remember her as a loving, kind, and faith-filled soul. Her presence was a comforting embrace for those in need, and her spirit, an embodiment of grace. She faced life's challenges with unwavering faith and an open heart, inspiring those around her to do the same.

Janet's life was a journey of love, from the bonds she formed with her family to the friendships she nurtured within her community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart well-loved.

As we bid farewell to Janet J. (Fratus) Costa, we celebrate the light she brought into this world. Her memory will be cherished, her example followed, and her love felt always, as she rests in eternal peace.
