Joao M. Pacheco

EAST PROVIDENCE – Joao M. Pacheco, 78, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria Fatima (Tavares) Pacheco, who passed away on April 13, 2023.

Born in the Azores on the island of Sao Miguel on September 12, 1944, he was the loving son of the late Conceicao Pacheco.

Joao grew up in Sao Miguel and lived there until migrating to the United States in 1977, settling in East Providence.

He was employed as an electrician and held many subcontracts in the field over the years.

A man of strong faith, he was a longtime communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church in East Providence and would volunteer to do the electrical work and lights for the parish feasts. He was extremely proud of his Portuguese heritage and was an active member of the local Portuguese community.

He is survived by his devoted children: Richard J. Pacheco of Warwick and Lidia C. Pacheco of Warwick. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Rui Brum and Ryan Brum, both of Warwick.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 9:00 AM from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in his honor at 10:00 AM in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, at which time Joao will be laid to rest with his late wife, Maria. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
