Jodi Lyn (Olsen) Tavares

Riverside - Jodi L. Tavares,42, known lovingly to family and friends as Jodi, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, June 15, 2026, at her home in Riverside, Rhode Island, surrounded by the love of the life she had built and the family she cherished. Born on June 1, 1984, in Fall River, Massachusetts, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. She was the beloved wife of Shawn Tavares, and together they shared nearly 20 years of marriage and a loving partnership that began in 2003.

Jodi was the daughter of John W. Olsen of Riverside and the late Virginia M. (Nunes) Olsen. She was a devoted mother to Joseph Anthony Tavares, age 17, and William Shaun Tavares, age 14, both at home. She was also the loving sister of Wendy Peters, of Fall River, Heidi Olsen of Bristol, Michael Borge of Fall River, John W. Olsen III of Berkley, Ma., her twin brother Jordan Lee Olsen of Riverside, and she was predeceased by her brother David Borge. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her warmth and care. Her dogs, Costello and Freddie, were treasured members of her home and family.

Jodi received her Bachelor Degree in Education from Rhode Island College, a milestone that reflected her commitment to learning and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others. She devoted her career to helping children and families, serving as a teacher at the Tri County Early Intervention Learning Center for more than 12 years. Prior to that, she worked at the East Bay Community Action Program for over 7 years. Her work was more than a profession, as it was an expression of her compassion, patience, and dedication to those she served.

For over 16 years, Jodi made her home in Riverside, having previously lived in East Providence for more than 19 years. She became a familiar and cherished part of her community and was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried herself with the grace and humility that reflected her beliefs. She found joy in reading, traveling, and taking vacations in New Hampshire, Vermont, Aruba, and Portugal. She was an excellent cook of Portuguese food, and she took pride in preparing meals that brought comfort and happiness to those around her.

Jodi also enjoyed movies and music, and she especially loved listening to the K-Love Christian radio station. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and togetherness, and she treasured the simple and meaningful moments shared with those she loved. Above all else, spending time with her family was the most important part of her life. Whether at home, on a trip, or gathered around the table, she created memories that will be held close forever.

Those who knew Jodi will remember her as loving, generous, and thoughtful. She had a gentle spirit and a caring heart, and she gave herself freely to her family, her students, her friends, and her community. Her presence brought comfort and light to many, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though her passing leaves a profound emptiness, her life stands as a beautiful testament to devotion, faith, and love.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery,550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
