John Andrews Jr.

John Andrews Jr., 94, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lucy D. (Ormonde) Andrews.

Born in East Providence on August 14, 1930, he was the loving son of the late John Andrews and Mary (Goulart) Andrews. He grew up in East Providence and had a long and dedicated career, working at both Fruit of the Loom and at Dow Chemical Company, as a chemical product supervisor.

A proud veteran, John served in the U.S. Marine Corps from April 14, 1948, until April 13, 1950, and later in the U.S. Army from July 24, 1950. He remained active in the American Legion and deeply valued his time in the military.

John was a passionate sports fan, with a love for baseball. He enjoyed following both the New York Yankees and Boston Bruins, always ready for a lively discussion about the teams. He also loved golf, bowling, and playing cards, hobbies that brought him great joy and lifelong friendships.

Above all, John cherished his family. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, always their biggest supporter.

In addition to his wife, Lucy, he is survived by his son, John P. Andrews of Riverside; his daughter, Deborah Merola, and her husband, William, of Warwick; his sisters, Katherine A. Whitaker of Seekonk and the late Mary Frances McIvor; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 10:30 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated by the Reverend Albert P. Marcello III at 11:30 AM in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter at 1:00 PM.
