John Rebello Barbosa

East Providence - John R. Barbosa, 82, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Miriam Hospital in Providence. Born on March 2, 1942, in Sao Miguel Azores, John lived a full and vibrant life characterized by kindness, love, and faith.

 He spent 30 years in East Providence after moving from the Fox Point section of Providence, where he was deeply rooted in the community. A dedicated custodian for Brown University, John took pride in his work and formed lasting friendships with his colleagues and the students whose lives he touched daily.

John was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.  John's belief system was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's challenges with grace and resilience.

John's passion for music was one of his most endearing qualities. He found joy in playing the guitar, a hobby that brought him immense pleasure and allowed him to connect with others through the universal language of music. His melodies were a reflection of his inner serenity and love for life.

Family was the center of John's world. He was a devoted father to his daughter Celeste Rodrigues and her husband Raul of Coventry. His role as a grandfather to Kameron Rodrigues was one of his greatest joys. John's love for his grandson knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment they spent together.

John leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his siblings: Manuel R. Barbosa, Ricardo R. Barbosa, Rita DeMedeiros, and Maria R. Barbosa. He was predeceased by his sister Maria G. Cabral. His memory will also be treasured by his many nieces and nephews, who saw in him a figure of unwavering support and guidance.

John's life was a beautiful melody, composed of moments of joy, love, and unwavering faith. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. John R. Barbosa will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.

His funeral will be held on Friday, February 7,2025 at 9:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
