Jose Alves Ferreira

East Providence -Jose Alves Ferreira,79, affectionately known as Jose, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 27, 2025, at RI Hospital in Providence. Born on March 24, 1946, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Jose was a man whose loving, funny, and courageous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

A devoted husband, Jose shared more than 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria M. (Cordeiro) Ferreira. Together, they built a life founded on love, respect, and mutual support. Jose was a cherished son of the late Mariano and Maria  Da Estrela Alves (Botelho) Ferreira, and a caring father to Paula Goncalves and her husband Roberto of East Providence. His role as a grandfather to Starr and Skye Goncalves was one he embraced with joy and pride.

Jose’s siblings, Manuel, Mariano, Dinis, Irene Medeiros, and Salome Pavao, will fondly remember their brother's warmth and humor. He was also a brother to the late Mario Ferreira. His extended family of nieces and nephews will fondly recall his infectious laughter and the wisdom he imparted.

Before making East Providence his home in 1978, Jose served with distinction in the Portuguese Army. His strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Ferreira's Concrete Forms, a business he owned and operated for over 25 years prior to his injury. His professional accomplishments were matched by his commitment to his community and his involvement in St. Francis Xavier Church as a dedicated parishioner.

Jose's interests were as rich and varied as his personality. His garden was a source of pride and joy, a testament to his love for nature’s beauty. Fishing provided him with moments of tranquility and reflection, while his cooking brought family and friends together to share in the flavors he lovingly crafted. Competitive yet always playful, he found delight in games of cornhole and card playing.

An advocate for health and fitness, Jose enjoyed working out and took special care of his grapevine, which yielded the fruits of his labor—homemade wine and moonshine that he was always eager to share. His love for soccer was evident to anyone who knew him, especially when cheering on his favorite team, Benfica.

Jose's home was a hub of happiness and hospitality, where laughter echoed, and memories were made. His presence was a comfort and his guidance a gift that will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

His passing leaves a void in the community and among his loved ones, but his legacy of love, laughter, and courage will endure. Jose Alves Ferreira will be deeply missed, but the imprint he left on this world will never be forgotten.

His funeral will be held on Monday March 31 2025, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway ,East Providence, followed by a Mass of Chistian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church,81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
