Jose Marques Da Costa, fondly known as Jose to friends and family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Born in the beautiful city of Lisbon, Portugal, on September 1, 1941, Jose's journey of 83 years was marked by his vibrant spirit, friendly demeanor, and the joy he brought to every life he touched.
Jose's story began abroad but found its most enduring chapters written in the United States. He settled in the Fox Point section of Providence before moving to Rehoboth, where he spent his final three years. In his professional life, Jose was a dedicated machine operator, contributing over 15 years of service to HASBRO Manufacturing, where his hard work and commitment were well recognized.
A man of faith, Jose was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. His spiritual life was an important cornerstone, providing strength and comfort throughout his years. Jose also cherished his Portuguese heritage, actively participating as a member of the Portuguese club on Gano Street in Providence. His involvement in the club not only celebrated his roots but also fostered a sense of community and belonging.
Jose's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who loved life and knew how to enjoy it. An ardent soccer fan, he passionately supported his favorite team, Sporting F.C. He found relaxation and camaraderie in fishing, playing keno, and engaging in spirited games of dominos and cards with his friends. Jose's sense of humor and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in all these gatherings.
Family was the cornerstone of Jose's world. He was the loving husband of the late Esbela H. (Hilario) DaCosta. A devoted father, he is survived by his son, Jose Costa, and daughter-in-law, Mallissa Johnson-Costa, of Rehoboth, and he cherished the memories of his late son, Carlos Alberto Costa. As the youngest of seven siblings, Jose's passing marks the sunset of a generation, as he was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters.
Jose's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Amanda, Tarah, Taylor, and Jordan Costa, as well as Taylor and Devin Johnson. His great-grandchild, Luka Costa-Frakes, will grow up hearing stories of his great-grandfather's humor and warmth. Jose also leaves behind a tapestry of nieces and nephews, each reflecting a part of his kind and spirited nature.
Those who knew Jose will remember a man with an infectious laugh and an open heart. His ability to light up a room with humor and friendship made him a cherished companion to many. His life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one person can have on the world around them.
As we bid farewell to Jose Marques Da Costa, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with laughter, love, and the unwavering spirit of a man who was truly one of a kind. Jose's memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
