Riverside -Joyce M. (Sears) Soares, known to many simply as Joyce, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Warren Center in Warren, Rhode Island, at the age of 84.
Born on February 4, 1942, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Luis and Mary (Ferreira) Sears. Joyce lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the many simple joys that brought happiness to those around her. She was a loving, funny, and faith-filled woman whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Edmund Anthony Soares. She was the devoted mother of Jacquelyn Rego of Riverside and the late Kimberly Pimentel. She was the cherished sister of the late Russell Sears, Helen Marques, and Evelyn Cabral. She was also a loving aunt to Edmund Marques of Cummings, Georgia. Joyce was a proud grandmother to Nicole Oliveira and her husband Steven, Amanda Resendes, and Edmund Resendes, and she was a treasured great-grandmother to Kianna Oliveira, Miley Oliveira, Mia Oliveira, Noah Resendes, Madison Resendes, and the late Jase Resendes. Her family was the center of her life, and she found great joy in their love, accomplishments, and togetherness.
Joyce spent much of her life in Riverside, where she had resided since 1966 after moving there from Providence. She worked for Victory Pearl Company for over 10 years in the secretarial and Accounts Receivable departments, where she was respected for her dedication, reliability, and pleasant manner. Throughout her working years and beyond, she carried herself with quiet strength and a steady sense of responsibility that reflected the kind of person she was.
Faith played an important role in Joyce’s life. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and gave of herself through service and involvement in the community. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Trinity Brotherhood and also taught CCD at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, sharing her faith and guidance with younger generations. Her commitment to her church and her willingness to serve others were expressions of her generous spirit and deep devotion.
In her leisure time, Joyce enjoyed crocheting, baking cakes and wedding cakes, playing bingo, and sewing. She had a gift for creating beauty and comfort through her hands, and her talents were often shared with family and friends. Whether she was preparing something special in the kitchen, working on a handmade project, or enjoying a game of bingo, Joyce brought joy and care to all she did. These interests reflected her creativity, patience, and the loving nature that defined her life.
Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to family, and her gentle humor. She had a way of making others feel welcome and cared for, and her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday April 9, 2026, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at10:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence, RI.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
