Fall River - Kathleen Anne Souza, affectionately known as Kathleen to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2024, at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, MA. Born on February 8, 1946, in Brockton, MA, she was a beacon of warmth and wisdom throughout her 78 years of life.
Kathleen was the cherished life partner of the late Lloyd T. Griffin, Jr., and the beloved daughter of the late Raymond J. and Frances D. (Hargrove) Souza. She was a devoted mother to Lloyd T. Griffin, III, of Fall River, MA. Kathleen was a loving sister to Anthony P Sr. of Raleigh, NC, and she held fond memories of her late brother William S. Souza, and sister Margaret R. Thompson Levy. As a doting grandmother, she cherished every moment with her grandson, Lloyd T. Griffin, IV, and she nurtured close relationships with her many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen's educational journey was marked by her insatiable thirst for knowledge, culminating in two master's degrees that paved the way for her impactful career. Her professional life was dedicated to serving as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Department of Youth Services) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Taunton State Hospital. For over 12 years, she offered guidance and support to adolescents and troubled youth, touching countless lives with her expertise and compassion.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Kathleen was a woman of varied interests. She had an enduring love for travel, exploring new places, and embracing different cultures. A voracious reader, she would often be found with a book in hand, lost in other worlds and ideas. Kathy's passion for lifelong learning led her to attend numerous seminars and retreats, further enriching her mind and soul. She was also an avid yoga practitioner, finding peace and balance in its disciplines.
Those who knew Kathleen would describe her as intelligent, generous, and faith-filled. Kathleen was a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ First Tabernacle Church of Providence. She shared her wisdom freely, giving of herself and her resources without hesitation. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and interactions with everyone she met. Kathleen's presence was a gift to those around her, and her legacy of kindness, understanding, and spirituality will continue to resonate with all who were blessed to know her.
Kathleen's family includes her brother Anthony P. Souza Jr. and his wife Marcia and their children, Anthony P. Souza II, Tyreece Souza, and Travis Souza. She was also the cherished aunt to Courtney Levy, Robbie Thompson, Gorgeanna Barros, Nicole Washington, Barbara Jean Williams, Kathy Washington and the late James T (Jimmy) Washington. As well as Godmother to Angie Rivera-Correa. The family bonds were strong and filled with love, and Kathleens’s influence and affection were felt by each of her relatives.
As we say farewell to Kathleen, we celebrate her remarkable journey through life. She was a beacon of light and love, her laughter and wisdom leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. Kathleen’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of faith, and the beauty of a generous spirit.
Kathleen’s family will hold a service to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives and the community. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will forever remain an integral part of the tapestry of their lives. Kathleen’s love, teachings, and memories will continue to guide and inspire her family and all who knew her, ensuring that her legacy of love and service will endure for generations to come.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on SATURDAY Oct. 5, 2024, from 10:00am – 12:00pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East providence, RI, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 12:00pm.
Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd. Providence, RI
