Fall River - Louise (Ruel) Massey, 98, a cherished matriarch and beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River, Massachusetts. Born on March 3, 1927, in Fall River, she lived a full and meaningful life that touched the hearts of many.
Louise was the beloved wife of the late Harvey H. Massey, Jr., and the treasured daughter of the late Joseph D. and Coranna (Richard) Ruel. She was a loving and devoted mother to Jeffrey Massey, CFP, of Coventry, Edgar A. Massey of Pawtucket, Rochelle L. Kryla and her husband Thaddeus "Ted" of Palm Bay, Florida, and Vivian L. Cleary and her husband James, Jr. of Somerset, MA. Though she experienced the profound loss of three of her sons, Harvey D. Massey Sr., Gerald B. Massey, and Phillip J. Massey, her strength and love never waned.
Louise was predeceased by her siblings, the late Joseph G. "Whitey" Ruel, and Helen Doucet. She leaves behind a legacy of love as the adored grandmother of 14, and as the great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother of over 30 descendants. Her numerous nieces and nephews also survive her, each carrying a piece of her spirit and generosity.
For over five decades, Louise dedicated her professional life as a sales associate for Stanley Home Products, where she was known for her exceptional customer service and warm personality. She was a devout parishioner of St. Aidan's Church in Cumberland before moving back to Fall River, where she continued to live out her faith through service.
Louise's involvement in her community was extensive. As the former President of the Women's Club at St. Aidan Church, she led with grace and compassion. Her commitment to volunteer work, particularly at nursing homes, showcased her selfless nature and her desire to bring joy to others.
Her hobbies were a reflection of her love for life and family. Louise's home was the heart of holiday gatherings, and she reveled in the joy of her family's company. She was an avid reader, always eager to learn and escape into the pages of a good book.
Described by those who knew her best as kind, selfless, and caring , Louise's impact on the world was as profound as it was gentle. Her ability to listen, her readiness to help, and her constant nurturing presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Louise's life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched. Though her presence will be missed, the warmth of her spirit will continue to illuminate the lives of her loved ones.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Aidan – St. Patrick Parish,1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 153 Curran Rd, Cumberland, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00pm – 5:00pm in the funeral home.
