Manuel Canario Obituary

Manuel Furtado Canario, known affectionately as Manuel to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island. Born on February 3, 1946, in the beautiful Azores, Portugal, Manuel's journey of 78 years was one marked by love, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Manuel was the cherished husband of Esmeralda DaSilva (Pontes) Canario, sharing a life full of joy and companionship. He was born to the late Francisco DaSilva Canario and Maria Luisa (Furtado) Canario and grew up with a strong sense of family that he carried throughout his life. Manuel was a devoted father to his sons, Jose "Joseph" Canario of East Providence, and Carlos Canario and his wife Elizabeth of North Providence. As a loving brother, he shared many fond memories with his sister, Rosarinha Cardoza of East Providence.

His role as an uncle to Steven and Sandra M. Cardoza was filled with moments of guidance and laughter, and as a grandfather and great-grandfather, Manuel's legacy continued with his grandchildren Josh, Abigail, and Jason, and his great-grandchild Autumn. Each of them will carry forward the love and values he instilled in them.

Manuel's life was characterized by a strong work ethic and dedication. He provided for his family through his long-time employment as a maintenance worker for the Diocese of Providence, where he served for over a decade. Prior to this, Manuel was a valued employee at the American Insulated Wire Company, where he spent many years contributing to the company's success.

A man of deep faith, Manuel was a respected member of the Portuguese Assembly of God - Igreja Evangelica Pentecostal in Seekonk, Massachusetts. His church community was a source of strength and fellowship for him, and he was an active participant in the church's activities and services.

Manuel's love for his adopted home was evident as he lived in East Providence for over 52 years after relocating from the Fox Point Section of Providence and his native Portugal. He took great pride in his garden, which was a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit. Manuel's garden was not only a place of beauty and tranquility but also a space where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Traveling was another of Manuel's passions. He seized every opportunity to explore new places and cultures, creating lasting memories with his family. These experiences enriched his life and broadened his perspective, something he always cherished.

Above all, Manuel was a man who exuded love and kindness. His faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew him. He met each day with a heart full of gratitude and lived his life with a generosity that touched the lives of many.

Manuel Furtado Canario will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be a guiding light to us all.

His funeral will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a funeral service at 10:00am in the Portuguese Assembly of God - Igreja Evangelica Pentecostal, 1237 Newman Avenue, Seekonk, MA.
