Manuel Cardoso Obituary

PROVIDENCE - Manuel Cardoso, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. He was born on January 8, 1952, in Faial da Terra, São Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Francisco F. and Irene (Medeiros) Cardoso.

A hardworking and devoted family man, Manuel served in the Portuguese Army before making his home in the United States. He was a dedicated employee of St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 30 years.  Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Lena (Conti) Cardoso of Providence; his son, Peter, and wife Carrie Cardoso of Pawtucket; his daughter, Amanda, and husband Piotr Budzyna of North Providence; and his cherished grandchildren, Riley Stanford and Tyler Budzyna. He also leaves his brother, José M. Cardoso, and wife Eva of New Bedford, MA, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Ramiro Cardoso, Reverend Reinaldo M. Cardoso, Marildo Cardoso, and Albert M. Cardoso.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, beginning with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a committal service at 11:30 AM in the chapel of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside.

Manuel will be remembered for his work ethic and his steadfast dedication to his family. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Lung Association.
