Maria Martins Obituary

Maria Conceicao (Gaspar) Martins,74, known affectionately as Maria to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born on September 25, 1950, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria's journey brought her to East Providence, where she became a beloved member of the community for over 20 years after living in Cranston, RI.

Maria was the cherished wife of Carlos Martins, and together they shared a life filled with love and mutual respect. She was the devoted daughter of the late Antonio and Margarida (Costa) Gaspar, and a nurturing mother to her daughter, Michelle Costa, and her husband, Jason, of Seekonk, MA. Maria's legacy of love continues through her siblings, Gilbert Gaspar of California, Felipe Gaspar, and Jose Gaspar, both of Sao Miguel, and she is preceded in death by her brothers Herculano and Hermando Gaspar. Her life was further enriched by the joy and laughter of many nieces and nephews, who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts, when she was being funny.

Maria dedicated over five fruitful years to American Ring, where she worked as a molder in the jewelry department. Her colleagues remember her as a hardworking and reliable individual whose presence brought warmth to the workplace. Maria's commitment to her faith was evident in her active participation as a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where she found great solace and community.

Among her many interests, Maria found pleasure in the simple things in life. She had a passion for gardening, where her hands would work the earth to bring forth vibrant flowers and hearty vegetables. Maria was also an accomplished knitter, her skilled hands creating intricate patterns and cozy garments for her loved ones. These hobbies were not only a testament to her patience and creativity but also a reflection of her loving and selfless nature.

Maria's kind spirit touched all who knew her. She was a woman of immense love, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her selfless acts of kindness, whether big or small, left a profound impact on her family and friends. Maria's gentle demeanor and unwavering kindness made her a pillar in her community and an example of the goodness in humanity.

As we bid farewell to Maria, we celebrate her life, which was lived with grace and compassion. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her, and her influence will be felt for generations to come. Maria Conceicao (Gaspar) Martins will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of her family and friends.
