Maria DaRocha Obituary

Rehoboth -   Maria (Resendes) DaRocha, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 85 in the Oakhill Nursing Home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Born on November 27, 1938, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria's journey brought her vibrant spirit and nurturing soul to the United States, where she became a treasured member of her community.

Maria was the beloved wife of the late Alfredo DaRocha, and together they cultivated not only a family but also the flourishing DaRocha Nurseries. Her dedication to the family business was second only to her devotion to her children and her 14 grandchildren. Maria was the loving mother of Robert DaRocha of Somerset, Anthony DaRocha of Seekonk, Alfredo DaRocha, Jr., of Somerset, Marylou DaRocha of Cranston, and Paula DaRocha, Sandra Nastari of Smithfield. She took immense pride in her role as a mother, guiding her children with a gentle hand and a generous heart.

The daughter of the late Silo and Maria (Furtado) Resendes, Maria was a sister to John Resendes of East Providence, Fernando Resendes, and the late Cecelia Ramos. Her familial bonds were deeply rooted in her Azorean heritage, and she carried the warmth of her upbringing into every relationship she nurtured throughout her life.

Maria's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. As a long-standing parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, her faith-filled nature shone brightly, inspiring those around her to embrace life's blessings with gratitude and grace. Her loving spirit was a testament to her unwavering belief in the goodness of people and the power of prayer.

A resident of Rehoboth for many years, Maria originally came from East Providence, and throughout her life, she remained a pillar of strength and generosity in her community. Her involvement with the church and her work with DaRocha Nurseries allowed her to touch the lives of many, leaving a legacy of kindness and commitment to both her faith and her family.

Maria's love for plants and flowers was more than a mere interest; it was a reflection of her own character—full of life, beauty, and the ability to bring joy to others. Her home was often filled with the fragrances of her beloved garden, a physical manifestation of the love and care she bestowed upon everything she touched.

Above all, Maria cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She imparted wisdom and love in equal measure, ensuring that the values she held dear would be carried forward for generations to come.

Those who knew Maria would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and generous. Her laughter was infectious, her advice was sought after, and her presence was a comfort to all. Maria's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of dedication to her family, service to her community, and an unshakeable faith that guided her every step.

As the sun sets on Maria's earthly journey, her light continues to shine in the hearts of those who loved her. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, profound faith, and boundless generosity—a legacy that will continue to bloom, much like the flowers she so adored, in the gardens and hearts she leaves behind.    Maria (Resendes) DaRocha's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and she will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her enduring spirit.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.
