Maria Gloria (Jacome) Tavares

East Providence- Maria Gloria (Jacome) Tavares, 97, known affectionately as Maria, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the RI Hospital in Providence, on the same day as her beloved grandson Joseph Silva, Jr. who passed away ten years ago.  Born on December 23, 1927, in Sao Miguel Azores, Maria's journey through life was marked by her warmth, kindness, and generosity. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Reis Tavares and the cherished daughter of the late Hermando and Elmiria (Moniz) Jacome.

Maria's love and legacy continue through her devoted children: Emanuel Tavares of Warwick, Maria C. Perry of Warren, Ines Janeiro of East Providence, Lucia Silva of East Providence, Gloria M. Larguinho of Swansea, and Eduarda Calandrelli of Rehoboth, MA. She was the proud grandmother of Shaun, Michael, Stephanie, Ray, Jason, Christopher, Derick, Bianca, Gian, Daniel, and the late Michelle Perry and Joseph Silva, Jr., and a doting great-grandmother of seven. Maria was predeceased by her brothers Jaime Moniz, Tony Moniz, and Jacinto Moniz, but her memory lives on through the numerous nieces and nephews who survive her.

After emigrating from Portugal in 1973, Maria settled in East Providence, where she quickly became a valued member of the community. She dedicated many years of service as a molder for the Imperial Pearl Jewelry Manufacturer before her well-deserved retirement. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were admired by all who knew her.

A devout parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, Maria's faith was an essential part of her life. Her interests and hobbies were a reflection of the love she had for the world around her. Maria found joy in cooking and cleaning, tending to her garden, and nurturing her flowers and plants. Her afternoons were often spent engrossed in her favorite game shows, and she was a fervent supporter of the New England Patriots. However, above all, Maria's greatest pleasure was the time she spent with her family, who were the center of her universe.

Maria's life was a testament to the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity. She had a heart that knew no bounds and a spirit that uplifted everyone she encountered. Her unwavering support and selfless nature were the pillars upon which her family thrived.

As we bid farewell to Maria, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. Her smile, her laughter, and the love she so freely gave will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Maria's legacy of love will continue to blossom in the hearts of her family and friends, just as the flowers she so tenderly cared for in her garden.

Maria Gloria (Jacome) Tavares will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Manuel, in a serene ceremony befitting the peaceful life she led. Her memory will be cherished, her presence sorely missed, and the impact she made on the world will be felt for generations to come. As we say goodbye, we take solace in the knowledge that her spirit remains with us, guiding us with the same love and wisdom she shared so generously in life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday April 28, 2025, at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.  Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are MONDAY MORNING in the CHURCH from 9:00am – 10:00am. Arrangements by the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, East Providence.
