Maria L. Martins

SWANSEA – Maria Luisa Martins, affectionately known as “Ia” 98, of Swansea, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born on July 17, 1926, on the scenic island of Brava, Cape Verde, Maria was the devoted daughter of the late Manuel Lopes Martins and Domingas Spencer (de Rosa) Martins. She spent many years working in healthcare as a certified nursing assistant, where her compassionate spirit touched the lives of countless individuals until her retirement.

Maria was known for her loving, caring, and hospitable nature, offering warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Her strong faith in God and the unwavering support of her family and friends were the foundations of her strength and sustenance throughout her life. She was a cherished "Tia" to her numerous nieces and nephews, leaving a lasting legacy of love and devotion.

In addition to her parents, Maria was predeceased by her siblings: Max Martins, Francisco Martins, Mariana Correia, and Dalva Braga Silva.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend Jorge Rocha at 10:00 AM in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Interment will follow at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
