Cranston - Maria Manuela (deFontes) Cabral,a woman of profound love and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Cranston, RI, on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Born on February 11, 1935, in São Miguel, Azores, Maria was a beacon of selflessness and care throughout her 89 years.
Maria, the beloved wife of the late John Cabral, was the cherished daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Patricio) deFontes. She was a devoted mother to her children, Jose Vieira of Faial, Portugal, Frank Borges of Cranston, Joao Borges of Cranston, Marco Borges of East Providence, and Lucy Cabral of Cranston. Her siblings, the late Antonio deFontes Amaral, Jose deFontes Amaral, Vitorino deFontes Amaral, Jack Fontes, Manuel Fontes Medeiros, Eugene Fontes, Joana Bento, Augusta Bento, Sally Fontes Pavas, and Tillie Fontes, held a special place in her heart. Maria was a loving sister whose memories will be treasured by her many nieces and nephews.
The legacy of Maria's love and nurturing spirit lives on through her grandchildren, Tatiana, Larissa, Derrick, Brandon, Jaymin, Cameron, Nathan, Deja, Dajour, Dejanay. Russiyah, Brooklyn, Ryder, Marquis, and Ne'ishoa, and her nine great-grandchildren. She found immense joy in watching her family grow and flourish, always providing a warm and welcoming presence in their lives.
Maria's role as a homemaker was a testament to her dedication to her family. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and an abundance of love. Her hands were rarely still, as she cultivated beauty both in her garden and within the walls of her home. Her passion for her plants was evident to all who visited, and the care she took in nurturing them was a reflection of the care she gave to her family.
Her interests extended beyond her home, as she embraced her role as a matriarch with enthusiasm. Maria's love for her family and grandchildren knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her unwavering support and guidance were the cornerstones upon which her family built their lives.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
