East Providence -Maria S. (Santos) Periquito, affectionately known as Maria, passed away peacefully at R.I. Hospital in Providence, RI on June 28, 2023. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, on April 30, 1952, Maria was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a life of kindness and love.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband of over 48 years, Antonio Periquito. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, setting a wonderful example of partnership for their children. Maria was a proud and loving mother to Elizabeth Periquito of East Providence, Patricia Dos Reis and her husband John of Riverside, and Tanya Resendes and her husband Christopher of East Providence.
She was a cherished sister to Virginio Santos of Sao Miguel, Manuel Santos of Canada, Maria Ana Bicho of East Providence, Fatima Macaroco of Sao Miguel, and Lourdes Raposo of Sao Miguel. Maria's siblings will remember her as the loving and kind sister who always had a comforting word and a warm smile to share.
Maria was a doting grandmother to Koby Vieira, Jasmine Dos Reis, Hailey Vieira, Donovan Dos Reis, Xavier Resendes, and Aubrey Resendes. She also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to Koby Vieira, Jr. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Maria dedicated many years of her life to serving as a Laundry Attendant for Linn Health Care before retiring. Her hard work and dedication were highly regarded by her colleagues, and she always went above and beyond to ensure the best possible care for the people she served.
Maria was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where she found a deep sense of community and spiritual fulfillment. Originally from Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria had been a resident of East Providence since 1994. She deeply loved her community, having made it her home after coming from the Fox Point section of Providence.
Maria was known for her kind and loving nature, always ready with a comforting word or a helping hand. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. Her warmth and love were infectious, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In remembrance of Maria, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate to know her. Maria S. (Santos) Periquito's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of her loving family and friends.
Her funeral will be held on Monday July 3, 2023, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI.
