Providence - Richard A. Carnevale, a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 12, 2023, just two days shy of his 87th birthday. Born on July 14, 1936, in Providence, he was the son of the late Eva Ritter.
Richard was known as a stubborn, matter-of-fact man, but with a great caring-spirit. He was a loyal father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children: Keith Carnevale of Palm Coast, FL, Lori Marchetti and her husband David of Cranston, Debbie Monteiro of Johnston, and Tina Valliere and her husband Louis of Warwick. He was also the proud brother of Vincent Ritter, Jr., of Warwick, Nora Whittle of Virginia Beach, VA, and predeceased by his brother Norman Ritter and sister Patricia Andrews. Richard was a beloved grandfather of 9 and a great-grandfather of 6. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and his adoring aunt Agnes Fracassa of Johnston, of whom he cherished.
Richard had a fulfilling career working for the Providence Water Supply Board as a truck driver. He took great pride in his work, providing an essential service to his community for many years. Richard was also a proud veteran of the US Army, having bravely served his country during the Korean War.
As a lifelong Rhode Island resident, Richard was an active member of the Portuguese American Club of Cranston. He enjoyed the camaraderie and community that the club offered, and he participated in many of its activities. Richard enjoyed going to the race track, bowling, playing darts, and was always up for a game of pool billiards, especially with his grandson Andrew. Let’s also not forget how much he loved playing poker and scratching lottery tickets. He also had an appreciation for old music, often seen tapping his foot to the tunes of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Fats Domino. Richard's love for old western movies was a favorite pastime of his, which provided him with hours of entertainment and enjoyment while sipping on and enjoying his ‘half a cup of coffee’.
He was a faithful supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, making regular donations to aid in their research and treatment efforts as well as being a faithful contributor to the Veteran’s organization. This act of generosity was a testament to Richard's kind and giving nature, and his hope in making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Richard A. Carnevale will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the love and laughter he shared with his family. May his legacy of generosity, kindness, and being passionate continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
