Robert “Robbie” “Bob” Emmet Shannon, 60, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Foxboro and Norwood, MA, passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born September 17, 1964, in Boston, MA, Robert was raised in Norwood, MA, the son of the late Bertrand E. and Veronica Anne (Pitts) Shannon.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of Jennifer (Marshall) Shannon, to whom he was married for 16 years. Beside his loving wife Jennifer, he leaves his cherished daughter Makayla, who was his “little girl.” He is also survived by his daughters from his previous marriage, Kaitlyn Shannon (and her partner Sydney) of Morristown, VT and Kristen (Daniel) O’Connor of Haverhill, MA, as well as one grandson, Ryan O’Connor.
Robbie leaves behind his siblings: Diane Sheehan of Norwood; Barry (Jackie) Shannon of Wrentham; Donna (Dan) Goguen of San Antonio, TX; Barbara (Ted) Zakrzewski of Arlington, VT; Kathleen Shannon of Norwood; Edward Shannon of Essex Junction, VT; and James (Rebecca) Shannon of Norwood. He leaves his sisters-in-law, Terrie Jordan of Goffstown, NH, and Sheila (Rena Flaven) Marshall of Pahrump, NV. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Shannon, his brother-in-law Gary Sheehan, and his mother-in-law Carol Ann (Childs) Smith.
He was also the nephew and godson of Albert Pitts of Milford, MA, and the nephew of Emily Shannon of Medford, MA. Robbie leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
Robbie grew up in Norwood, MA, attending St. Catherine of Siena School for eight years, graduating in 1978. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1982 and later earned an Associate’s Degree from Northeastern University after returning home from the service. Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving eight years and attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Growing up, Robbie played baseball from Little League through high school and later for the United States Air Force League while stationed in Germany. He was an excellent player and pitcher, respected by his coaches and teammates alike. He remained a lifelong sports fan, especially of Boston teams. He loved watching the Bruins - taking Makayla to Providence Bruins games. Whether it was the Bruins, Red Sox, or Patriots, if they were playing, he was in front of the TV cheering them on (and always sharing his opinions on the players and the next season’s prospects).
Robbie also loved the water. As a child, he spent summer days at Lake Mirimichi in Plainville, MA and Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA, where both sets of grandparents had cottages. Days were spent at the beach and evenings at Paragon Park, riding the rides and playing in the arcade. His love of the water carried throughout his life and was shared with his family, who cherished evenings spent watching sunsets together.
Holidays and traditions were important to him – especially the annual July 4th family cookout with aunts, uncles, and cousins, followed by the Norwood parade and evenings roasting marshmallows. Winters brought skating at Froggy’s, hockey with neighborhood kids, sledding down Second Street or at Pleasant Park.
Above all, Robbie loved being with family – whether it was at the beach, watching a game, playing a board game, or playing cards at the kitchen table.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Wednesday September 17, 2025, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm, in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, with a prayer service at 6:30pm in the funeral home.
