Ronald John “Ron” Meoni, 91, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in East Providence, Rhode Island. Born on November 9, 1933, in Meriden, Connecticut, he was the son of Paul A. and Julia R. (Sartucci) Meoni.
Ron graduated from Meriden High School in 1951 alongside his high school sweetheart, Lucy A. Amoroso. They married on Thanksgiving Day in 1956 and recently celebrated their 68th anniversary on November 22, 2024.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from UCONN in 1955 before proudly serving in the U.S. Army Finance Corps. After his service, he and Lucy settled in Meriden, raising six children and actively participating in their parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. He built a successful career at The Napier Company, where he ultimately served as CEO and President of the Board of Directors until his retirement in December of 1995.
Deeply committed to his community, Ron was elected to the Meriden Board of Education, serving as its President, and contributed to numerous other local boards. A diehard UCONN Huskies fan, he passionately followed the men’s and women’s basketball teams throughout his life. In recognition of his contributions to business and education, he was inducted into the Meriden Hall of Fame in 1995 and later into the UCONN School of Business Hall of Fame in 2000.
In 1973, Ron and Lucy endured the tragic loss of their daughter, Leslie Jayne Meoni, in a school bus accident. In her memory, they helped establish the Leslie Jayne Meoni Foundation for School Bus Safety, advocating for improvements in student transportation safety.
After retiring, Ron and Lucy moved to North Port, Florida, where he enjoyed playing golf year-round and He and Lucy shared a love for travel, with Italy holding a special place in his heart. His time reconnecting with family in Tuscany and sharing that heritage with his children brought him immense joy.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy, his sister, Geraldine A. Meoni, and five of his six children: Susan Petrocelli and her husband Richard, Paul J. Meoni and his husband Tom Kidd, Lisa Roy and her husband Jeffrey, Janet Cabral, and Catherine Ringling and her husband Justin. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Rick Petrocelli, Michael Petrocelli,Erica (Lohraseb) Petrocelli, April Annelli, Nicholas Roy, Nicole Cabral, Jesse Cabral, Tyler Ringling, and Tabitha Ringling, as well as ten great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Leslie Jayne Meoni, and his brother, Dario Meoni.
Services will be held at a later date to accommodate the immediate family.
