Thelma (Ferreira) Dias, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at RI Hospital in Providence, RI. Born on November 4, 1932, in Faial, Azores, Thelma was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her. She was the cherished wife of the late Enos Dias and a devoted daughter to her late parents Antonio and Maria S. (Vargas) Ferreira. Her warmth and grace will be profoundly missed by her loving family and the community that knew her well.
Thelma's journey led her from the picturesque landscapes of the Azores to the vibrant neighborhoods of Providence when she came to this country in December 1959. She quickly became an integral part of her new community, embracing the culture and contributing her own rich heritage. As a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Thelma's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with a gentle strength and unwavering spirit.
In her professional life, Thelma showcased her meticulous skills as an etcher for over 21 years, at the Cleveland Twist Drill Company, where she was not only respected for her craft but also for the camaraderie and support she offered her colleagues. Her work ethic and attention to detail were matched only by her capacity for building lasting relationships with those around her.
Thelma's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her nurturing and creative soul. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and dedication, blooming with the same love and care she poured into every aspect of her life. Cooking was another passion, with her Portuguese biscuits being a particular delight to family and friends alike. These simple joys brought great happiness to Thelma and to those who were fortunate enough to experience them alongside her.
Surviving Thelma are her adoring children, Paul Dias of East Providence, and Karleen Coppola and her husband Michael of North Providence. She was a doting grandmother to Talia Coppola, whose presence brought immense joy to Thelma's life. Her legacy also lives on through the many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their memories of her.
Thelma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Enos Dias, and her dear siblings, Jose V. Ferreira, Edward Ferreira, Mabel Medeiros ,Sarah Laurenco ,and Mary Berard . She carried the memory of her late family members with grace and ensured their stories continued through her own.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Thelma will remember her as the embodiment of love, kindness, and faith. Her gentle demeanor, coupled with a strength that saw her through life's challenges, was an inspiration. Thelma's unwavering support for her family and friends, her commitment to her faith, and her love for her community were the hallmarks of a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Thelma Dias, we celebrate a life that was filled with purpose and love.
